Post 4: Literacy

Malcolm X. What a guy. To be able to have the drive and the patience to read and copy word for word everything in the dictionary. It is amazing what he accomplished. Eight grade education and he was probably smarter than any college educated person out there. This story reminds me of my grandfather. My grandpa (before he passed) had a goal to read 100 books every year. Do the math, it's about one every four day's. For all 31 years of my life, there was only one year he didn't meet that mark and that was last year. The only reason he didn't complete it was because he passed away. He died with a book on his chest. He would go to St. Vinnie's, Goodwill, every bookstore in the Eugene-Springfield area four times a week and come home with boxes of books. He would even read books in foreign languages and taught himself how to speak many different languages. Dropped out of high school, never went to college, but read as many books as he could from as far back as he could read. In his early twenties he invented classification's that geologist use to this day and has created many patent's. Like Malcolm X, he was gifted in so many ways from just reading. It's amazing what people can accomplish from reading books.
